Unit 3

Movies/ Tv shows that have inspired me:

Tangled: the series- Is a Disney series following the events of the
Disney movie tangled. I really like the art style of the animation as the creators of the show wanted the style to look like a painting, and more so resemble the paintings Rapunzel did in the first movie.
If the creators changed the animation style it would still be good as the character design would not change much like other aspects of the show. My view of the animation style has changed the longer I look at it, as before I fought it was a very strange and unappealing
style in my opinion, but when I found out the reason behind the style was to resemble paintings from the movie I began to develop more respect for the style. In my work I would like to show the same use of bright colours that the show had, as in many of the backgrounds there are warm and bright colours that are very pleasing to the eye. To describe this work to someone who has never seen it, I would say that it is a 2D animated style that is trying to resemble paintings seen in the first movie. The most memorable thing about the style is that there are no solid out lines in the style, and the bright colours give off a very positive feel.

Wall-e- Is a Disney movie set thousands of years in the future where
one robot is the last thing on earth as is changed with cleaning u the planet, until he meets another robot called Eve. I really like the character design in Wall-e as the robots are all extremely cute which can make them more applying to a larger audience. The sound affects for the robots were done by Ben Burtt who also did the sound affects for the droids on Star Wars. I think if Walle was made in a different animation style it would not have the same affect as it does, and the 3D animation makes Wall-e look more like a real robot.

My opinion of the animation has not changed the longer I watch it as the character design is still appealing and so is the animation style its in. With my work I all ways want to make my art seem more 3d but I all ways find it difficult thinking three dimensionally. To describe this work to someone who has never seem
the film, I would say that it is a 3D animated film about a robot journeying into space.

Howls Moving castle- Is a studio Ghibli movie, and is about a girl who gets turned into an old lady and about her journey meeting the wizard Howl. I really enjoyed this movie when I first saw it everything stands out, but the character design is very interesting as a the stat of the movie the main character Sophie has a very dull dress sense which is a clue to the audience that she does not think very highly of herself, however by the end of the movie Sophie has a wardrobe change as she is wearing more brightly coloured clothes which suggests that she thinks more of herself. If the animation style had changed off this one film it wouldn't be the same as the rest of the studio Ghibli series and would stand out to much. My opinion of the art work does change the longer it look at it as the whole style is very detail and every time you watch the movie you see something new of different. With my work I would like to create something with a very appealing style and to make my work a bit more detailed to make it more believable. Explaining the animation style it is very difficult as it is not just
traditional animation but it used 3D animation mainly in the creation of the castle itself. The most memorable thing about the film is the style of animation that studio Ghibli has, it is very appealing and pleasing to the eye.

My little pony- Is a TV show created by Hasbro and is a 2D animation style created in flash. Ive been watching this show since I was 8, It was the reason I got into drawing and has been the base for my inspiration for year. Hasbro did change the style of the animation and used a new animation program for the movie, and it was nice to see a change in animation software as the new software looked more 3D where as flash Animation is more flat. My opinion of the animation style has changed as I am older and I am more informed of character design ad animation. Compared to my work I took a lot of inspiration of characters personalities from the  show and turned them into my characters. I would describe this art work to some one who has never seen it, as a flash animated program about pastel color horses

Doctor Who- Is live action TV show about an Alien and his time machine. If doctor who was animated I would find it very interesting as the writers could certainly do more with animation as there are not limitation to what you can animate. My opinion of the show has change, the writers have changed many things, and the show has changed a lot with time and with the greater knowledge in technology. When compared with my work I hope to make stories that are just as interesting as Doctor Who to keep viewers entertained, just how Doctor who has entertained me for years. How to describe Doctor who to someone who has never seen it FANTASTIC- Joseph Burgess

    Artist that have inspired me:

Tamaytka (http://tamaytka.tumblr.com/faq) Is an artist from New Zealand, is 16 yrs old and is on many social media sites like, you tube, Instagram and twitter. This artist already uses a range of tools to create her art such as, Drawing tablets to create digital art, and water colors to create traditional art and both of her mediums use the same unique style. My opinion of the art work does change as it very detailed and the artist used a lot of detail in her background work that is my goal to emulate. When compared to my work this artist has a higher skill level when it comes to digital art, and her style is more detailed that my own. If i had to describe her work to someone I would say it is very unique and detailed art style.

Is a 33 year old comic artist, who works in construction in the week and on the weekend works on his own comic. This artist has really inspired me to work on my own comics with any free time I have. If this artist used different materials to make his comic it would not change much as there story and the characters would be the same. My opinion of the art does not change the longer i look at it, the style is very cartoon and is similar to how i draw characters. Compared to my work he has a better knowledge of flash and Photoshop, but i would like to create my own web comic like he has done. If i had to describe his work to someone of has never seen it I would say it is a very cartoon style translated in to comical form.

Is a you tube artist called Rin, who makes lots of drawing tutorial and inspirational video for artists, and she even started to make her own web comic. Rin uses a range of mediums to create her art, though she is more capable at digital art, one of her goals is to improve her traditional art making. My opinion of the art work does change the longer i look at it as i get a better appreciation of it, as the art style is very appealing to me. I would describe this artist to someone who has nver seen her I would say, that this artist makes youtube videos with her own nowlgde of art, and her art is most digital with a mix of cartoon of realism

Jazziah Brooks is an Australian and you tube Artist who makes art tutorials and art challenges. He has made his own book on creating characters, and has made many animations. My opinion of his art does change the more I know about his process of creating art. Compared to my work he has much more experience at digital and traditional art and creation characters, i would love to learn more from his skills. I would describe his art as very professional as he has made his own animations, he is very fun to watch with a lot of knowledge for young artists. Brooks makes challenge videos, where he tests his artist abilities with many different mediums of art, like only sharpies, coffee, and trash.

Echo is a very weird you tube art who has made a variety of videos and some art videos, she has recently begun to make her own characters that she may turn into a story. If Echo used different materials I think it would be interesting to she how her style would change. Echo's style is very appealing to me and does change the longer i look at it as I gain a greater respect for her art. Compared to my own work Echo has greater knowledge at body types and creating characters that look different. If i had to describes Echo's art it would be weird but amazing at the same time.

Examples of my work compared to their work:

    My turnaround

    A tangled turnaround
This is two example of my turn around compared to the turn around from tangled the series. The tangled turn around has a lot more detail, and shows examples of how the feet look underneath, and how the hands move. Where as my turns around are a lot more simple And there are a lot of things that is need to improve on, the drawings are not straight and don't stand flat, the profile shot is not as good as I would have liked the profile shot to look better and a way I could have achieved this is by haven more practice in drawing faces and bodies from the side.

    My turnaround
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Tamaytka's art work

This is an example of my work compared to Tamaytka's work. Tam has a lot more experience with digital art, she is amazing at coloring her line art, at shading and lighting. My work was done using a phone app, and I was trying to experiment with shading and lighting. The overall outcome of my artwork is, I could have colored the line art to give it a softer affect on the eyes of the viewer, the shading is ok as it looks like there is darkness. But the lighting could use some more practice as because in my opinion it just does not look good and I have no reason I just don't like it.

    My work

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Drawing diff waffles sketch
This is an example of my work compared to other artists work, the other artist work is much more detailed compared to mine and was done using a pen and pencil as she adds more detail with the clothes. My work was done on a phone app, the shading is something I am really proud of because
it really makes the drawing look 3D. The lighting of the fire could have been more intense as it really docent show up much on the character and it makes the character look like she his no even there. The other artist has more experience drawing more detailed characters because are styles are different and I draw more cartoon character.

    My work

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A back ground that I copied from a screen shot
This is an example of my work compared to another artists work on drawing backgrounds, the other artists work is some concept art for Tangled the series and has a very interesting use of colour as there are a lot of bright and warm colours the are contrasted with very few cold colours. My background work however has less warm colours as it is a night time scene and warm colours are taken over by the dark, and my background has very dark lines Which gives it a more carbonic feel to the piece.

    Other Examples of my backgrounds.

    Unit 6-3D Project Research

    What is 3D animation

3D animation involves animating objects in a three dimensional space, can be used on both films and games, and is extremely popular in virtual reality. 3D has gained more and more popularity as the years went on, now being the main medium for animations and games.

An example of Uv texture mapping on a cube.

Uv mapping- Used to place a texture map onto a 3D object. Uv texturing allows the polygons that make up a three dimensional object to be painted with a colour, and the image is called a Uv texture map.

Using 2D designs in 3d animation- 2D design can be used in animation to create textures on a character or object, to make the over all object/character more realistic.

An example of a character turn around
Using 2D drawing references- can help 3D animators know what character looks like from all angles, giving them a better understanding of how to create the object in 3D as the 2D images work as blueprints for the animators.

Using Photographic references- Taking pictures of real people and real objects to get a better understanding of the 3D world, as objects from the real world are already in a 3D world. It also helps 3D animation to get a more photo realistic animation.

    An example of UV mapping
Uv project mapping- Is taking a 2D image ( that can be coloured and drawn in photoshop ) and placing it around a 3D image making the plain 3D image coloured.

Using Photographs as textures for 3D animation- Using photographs as textures an give the 3D object a more realistic view, as the pictures were taken from the real world

    An example of HDR
HDR Environment map- 3D animators use HDR technology for creating environments, and can be used to capture the amount and direction of light in a scene.

    An example of a texture
    What is Photogrammetry?

Using photographs in mapping and surveying the measurements of an object. The main principle of photogrammetry is triangulation, and by taking photos from at least two different locations the lines of sight from each camera can be developed to the points on a object. The lines of sight are used to produce 3 dimensional coordinates of the post of interest, and triangulation is also used for coordinating the measurements.

An example of a User interface
Collaboration media- When two types of media are used to create a movie, tv show or game. For example ' Who framed Rodger rabbit ' uses both 2d animation and real life to Create this movie.
More examples, Avatar, and paper man.

User interface designs use both 3d and 2d animation.

3D stop motion animation- Using puppets and camera studios can make 3D animation using real word objects, taking a picture and then moving the puppet or object can give the illusion of motion, however this process is very time consuming and can take studios over three years to create full movie. Examples include, Wallace and grommet, coreline, the box trolls and the little prince.

3D photorealism- Using photos to enhance the look of the animation, and give a more realistic impression.

Unit 2-Dream Works and Studio Ghibli

Dream works was founded on October 12 1994, after Katzenberg resigned from working at Disney.

Some of there movies include: How to train your dragon, And rise of the guardians. I enjoyed both of these movies as they both had good characters, animation and story lines. The dream workes founders made a deal that they would make less than 9 movies a year, they would be able to work for other studios, and they would be able to b home in time for dinner. Dream works continue to be rival to Disney.
Studio Ghibil, the name Ghibli was given by Hayao Miyazaki, the studio was founded after the success of the film valley of the wind. The studio mostly produced films by Miyazaki, and the studio went on to create lots of interesting movies such as: howls moving castle , and spirited away. Both movies I really enjoyed, the animation and art style was so unique and really applied to me.

    Unit 2-Disney and Preston Blair

    Disney
Disney started in 1919 where animator Walt dissent created a animation called Alice's wonderland, and became one of the biggest animation studios in the world. Disney continued to make animated films even after Walt's death, and has inspired many young animators. Disney was also home to the 9 old men, two of which created the animators bible( the illusion of life )
this book would inspire and teach young animators, man about the 12 principles of animation.

Preston Blair  was born  on the 24th of October 1908, and died on the 19th of April 1995. He was an American animator of Disney, and wrote a book called ANIMATION. His book focuses on teaching animation and character design, like how to create effect cute characters or how to draw hand gestures.
Blair uses very round shapes in his art works and doesn't used much colour except for the back ground which is a mid tone colour.
Blair uses a technique for reading cute characters, making the head larger compared to the size of the body, and this difference can make a very cute and appealing character. The medium that Blair used seems to be paper even mid tone paper. paper with a brownish colour to it. The pictures below are from Blairs book on animation and character design, and Blair draws many famous and recognisable characters in his book, and the pictures below are about creating cute character design and some examples of puppy character design. Blair has a more stylised drawings than realistic drawing, he may have drawn in this style as he may have believed that a more styled approach is more appealing.

    Unit 1-Briefs and Story Boards

    My brief
The first meeting of my two mane characters, the scene opens up with a dark screen and sound affects of rocks falling and a little girl crying. Soon the viewer sees eyelids open to reveal a girl crying on the main character, the girl stops crying and turns to face the boy with a confused look.

Zoe:( confused tone ) Your'e okay? (relieved) Thank god, but.. I thought you were dead.
Lin: (looks up, and with a shaky tone) Were.. are we?
Zoe: (calming dow and starts looking around) Not sure, this land must have been unstable and caved in as a result of the earth quake.
Lin: (Still confused)... Ok, and how are we ?
Zoe: (Looks at him with a dumb expression) ...I'm Zoe, you seriously don't no who you are? ( Lin Shakes his head)..Dude, thats so cliche.
Lin: Sorry, Its all a blank even my name.
Zoe: Hmm... that won't do... how about.... Lin.
    Lin: What?
Zoe: That's It we'll call you Lin for now (Zoe stands up)
    Lin: Why? That name.
Zoe: (Stretches her hand out to Lin) Because you look like a Lin to me, Now lets find a way out of here.

    My brief 2
The scene starts with a forest and zooms in to show to people walking in the forrest. A manned a girl are traveling, when that man suddenly stops with the girl crashing into him, and after would giving a unamused expression. The man make the girl stay back will he investigates what he saw.
